Service Engine Soon

Half way to work this morning, the “Service Engine Soon” light came on. Looks like I will be back to Brecht next Wednesday, let’s hope the car stays together until then. Sigh.

  1. If you don’t feel anything wrong with the car, it is usually from a misfire or temporary emissions problem, and will go away after a few “drive cycles” (restarts with enough driving)…give it a few days. My SES just came on while descending the mountain last night, and is already off a day later.

  2. Yeah, I was thinking that. I bought some real cheap gas from a 7/11, $3.28 a gallon, and wondered if it was the problem. I am half sure that the problem will go away before I need to take it on Weds. Thanks for making me think I might be right.

  3. I’ve been dealing with this for almost a month. Light goes on for severral days, then goes off for one trip, then back on. I’ve been back and forth to the dealer three times now, and they can’t figure it out. I’ve been driving a loaner since Tuesday this time. They are doing some sort of data comparison from other MINI dealers to see if this has been happening a lot recently around the country, and what has been done to fix it. My car is not quite a year old, and this definately should not be happening.

On another note, this loaner I have is an automatic; I can’t believe what a gas-guzzler it is compared with my manual!
